A Simple Read for Young Teens
A lot of tense jumping, which can confuse the reading and while the dialogue is juvenile, the story has potential.
The writer took a long way around to get to the conclusion of Chapter Two. I'm assuming in an attempt to build suspense, but I found myself skipping pages because it became rather tedious, rather quickly.
I thought after Sara got transported through the magical gateway that something interesting would happen, but she just ends up in another place with people where, of course, she's an ignorant outsider. Over time she and the people she meets/gets to know work through just enough difficulties to keep the story moving along.
For a teen book, it was adventurous and the ending opens up the way for book two nicely. If I were thirteen, I'd probably find this very entertaining.
The character interaction/dialogue, tense jumping, and few spelling/grammatical errors are the reasons for the star deductions.
