Very Detailed Information

The author did a wonderful job explaining the Mediterranean Diet and the many benefits afforded.
Since I'm in menopause, that particular part peaked my attention. I really appreciated that the author provided expert support for what she was saying.

One thing that caused me to raise an eyebrow was in the "foods to avoid" section. The author states to avoid Trans-fat. That a no-brainer; however, one of the items listed beneath examples was Popcorn (?). I'm going to assume, since popcorn is very healthy for your gut, that the author is referring to buttered popcorn?

The author goes into great detail explaining everything, from the benefits of the diet, pre-planning, which containers are best for storage, to a list of grocery items. A lot of details. In fact, the first 50 pages are details.

Then comes recipes. I had to admit, some of them made my mouth water. The first breakfast: Scrambled eggs with spinach and a side of raspberries (except the raspberries, which I don't care for, but can easily substitute). There were some items that I was completely unfamiliar with, such as Halloumi. Apparently, this is a type of fish. The recipe sounded amazing though. Some of the recipes I'd made prior without even realizing they were part of this diet: Pasta with lemon basil shrimp. The book provides these delicious-sounding recipes without benefit of images though. I think that a cookbook should have pictures, so that the reader can see what the finished product should look like.

The next section is a weekly meal plan; however, the author only provides this for two weeks. I'm assuming that the expectation is that either it will be repeated and/or the reader will move on to creating their own weekly plan (?). Is this diet only meant to be eaten for two weeks? The "last book" (book 3) goes over how to create meals using your crock pot. This is an excellent addition to a thorough book. A way for busy people to enjoy healthy meals when cooking (even pre-planned) isn't an option.

Overall, a very good cookbook. Add pictures, and it can be five-star worthy.
