The storytelling method was a bit strange, but not horrible, and I enjoyed the quotes thrown in at the oddest places. However, what really messed me up was the sudden repetition of the text, as if this hadn't been reviewed prior to being published. For instance, I got six pages into the ebook and suddenly the text started to repeat, to what I had just finished reading, verbatim. Talk about a weird 'huh?' moment. I even went back to the beginning to see if I was hallucinating. Nope. It definitely repeated, but with a different quote and text changes. I pressed on.
At times when I should have felt some emotional impact (as when the dad declared he'd sell the Corvette for college tuition), I felt nothing. The scene was so rushed and emotionless that it was more perfunctory than well thought out. It was as if the author thought, 'Okay, how should this scene go?,' then just typed the first thing that came into his head. The entire book was that way. I wanted to like this book, but it really needs work.
