My kids were so excited to read it‘I am Proud of Who I am: I hope you are too’ Book 2 is a continuation of the books in the ‘I am Proud’ series. A total of 15 books are to be completed. Children are introduced to pre-teens and teens from countries around the world to learn about their homelands, their culture, what makes them proud of their country and what they want to do when they grow up. Readers get to learn so much about each country and future potential jobs but written in letter form on one page and a picture of the character on a backdrop of their country and their dream job, that it doesn’t feel like a textbook just full of facts.
In book 2 there were 19 countries we got to visit. Here are a few: Angola, Finland, Haiti, Kiribati, Malawi, New Mexico, USA and Turkmenistan. In Angola we get introduced to Akif who wants to become a famous writer, like his inspiration Oscar Ribas. Ellea dreams of becoming a world-wide famous ice skater in Finland and Fabiola in Haiti wants to own her own shop to work on women’s hair. When we got this book in the mail, my kids, they are 6 and 9, immediately started grabbing at it because they wanted to see who they got to meet this time and the countries they are from. They like looking at the countries list at the beginning of the book. They even got excited when they saw a couple of states that were familiar to them. Once I finish reading the book, they always want to see what countries they get to read about in the next upcoming book. My daughter, who couldn’t really sit through all the countries when I read the first book, has re-read book 1 all on her own. This is definitely a book series I will continue investing in for my little ones.
