Great InformationBefore learning to do research on plants, it was never a good idea for anyone to give me a plant or for me to buy them because doing so put their green lives at risk. Since then, I've accumulated a few that have stayed with me for more than a year, some longer: a couple of African violets, a type of orchid (don't know the name), a snake plant, some succulents, and two peace lilies. I had to move my English Ivy outside because I couldn't get it to thrive indoors. Fortunately, it's doing well hanging outside. I've never heard of a Christmas Cactus, but it sounds delightful, so I may look into getting one. I'm proud of my efforts in keeping them alive, but I have yet to keep a palm or pathos alive or a couple of others that I would love to have, so this book was a good purchase for me.
One thing that I wasn't aware of, and hadn't encountered in my research, was how drastic temp changes or drafts could affect a plant. That was intriguing to me. Another thing the author mentions is giving plants a bath. I would have never thought of this, although I can imagine dust buildup could prove harmful. The author, however, mentions pests and mold. Interesting. Overall, I learned quite a bit about my houseplants and how to keep them healthy.
