Difficulties from the get-go

First there was the writing. At times, it seemed fluid and other times confused and mechanically poor. This started at the onset. I knew I was in for trouble reading this when the opening was wrought with mistakes and confused writing. It was as if the writer wanted to portray her writing a certain way but lacked the skills to pull it off. Here's an example in which her choice of words seemed forced, like she wanted to write cliched thoughts differently. It didn't work:
"...her hands heating up by her sides." "All the blood spilled from her cheeks..." (I had to re-read that one because the way it's written made me instantly see blood spilling out of her face. Yikes!). "Sucking her drink down to the bottom..." This type of writing was prevalent throughout, making the story difficult to follow at times because the nonsensical style meant having to re-read things in order to grasp the meaning, often lost in translation. Then there were other elements - it lacked in too many ways. The plot plodded along at a boring pace. The characters were bland. The dialogue, like the writing, seemed stilted and unreal. There was some terminology that I had to look up because I didn't even know what it was (i.e. ladyboy). Then there was times when the formatting went cockeyed and I had to hit the brakes yet again to sort if it was intentional or a mistake (i.e. page 125 of the eBook). Overall, it was a drab, disappointing read.
