Repartee abounds
This is a story of a father who is trying desperately to find his daughter a suitor in the year 1882 and the independent daughter who doesn’t want to be wed. Fate steps in and well we all know that story, right? Well, perhaps not this time. With the repartee between the characters, a scandalous proposition *gasp*, an antagonist that hides behind a gentlemen’s veneer and a cast of other individuals that clash with the main characters, you can’t help but glare, smile, giggle, feel shocked or out-right laugh as the chaos ensues.
I thoroughly enjoyed the realistic conversation, not just the banter, and plot in this book as well. You could see these conversations occurring and easily envision these characters behaving in the manner represented in this book as if they were real. I choose this book because I wanted a simple romantic novel to read and something that I could relax my brain with since I had just finished reading a rather complicated multiple storyline book previously. This fit that bill perfectly, but in the romantic comedy genre with a bit of drama, which I prefer because it adds more to the typical romance storyline. Even though the situations, conversations and banter were realistic and funny, the story simple yet thoroughly enjoyable, I didn’t connect with the characters as deeply as I have with other characters written by Barbara Woster, hence the 4 stars instead of 5. I had such a pleasant and relaxing time with this book that I couldn’t put it down and ended up finishing it in three days! This one is a keeper!
