Well written......and inventive, to be sure, but I had a difficult time with the level of violence and ignorance portrayed; especially as this is a middle-grade read.
EntertainingThe author definitely has a flair for this type of genre, but just as I would get going, enjoying the story, I'd stumble over a sentence that didn't make sense.
Example: He wore a white-dusty surcoat open in two neared his black trousers and long boots." Makes me laugh every timeThis truly is one of my absolute favorite, never go without, must-have-in-my-library-always books.
Started losing me in Chapter OneWhy? Because of the infantile dialogue and writing style plus a forced plot.
Interesting But RushedA typical near-first-meeting romance but with a little more involved story with Silas and his step-brother.
Well Shoot......I picked up the book to read because the covers of this series are well-done.
A Fantasy Worthy Of The NameI had to deduct a star because of the error in mechanics (missing commas mainly) and the misspelled words (i.e. 'savour' instead of 'savior' & 'drew breath' instead of 'draw breath).
A Bit ConfusingMaybe it's the fact that there are four sections broken down into more lengthy sections to explain the characters from each dynamic and a fifth section to quickly summarize the previous book.
What a delightful middle-grade mystery for about age 12.
ThrillingMechanically well done, dialogue exceptional, plot believable and tense (in just the right places)...but for me, it was the character development that really shot this one through the roof. When you love and hate (Ramirez) the characters, you know the author has done what it takes to make them feel real.
Very Well DoneReceived an ARC in exchange for an honest opinion, and that opinion is that this is a great graphic novel.
