I Didn't Get The PurposeFirst of all, the cover needs re-working. It makes little sense, as does the content of this book. What I thought, based on the synopsis, was to be an analysis of an antiquated book on etiquette, turned out to be no more than a summary of each chapter of the book (and not a very good one at that).
There were a few personal jabs at the past (i.e. the section on Polite Deportment and Good Habits), where the author briefly criticizes slavery, and I do mean briefly; however, this is not a "comparison" of then and now, rather a statement that "no kind of slavery is good". We all know this, but we also, as intelligent and learned adults should also comprehend that the era in which this book was written was far different than today--something this author was supposed to be expounding on, but fell way off the mark of actually doing so. If you don't want to pick up the book for which this synopsis was written, then this is a very brief accounting of that work. One that you'd do well to by-pass. I wish I had.
