Your book is well written and deserves a cover to match. The one you have now nowhere near does this story justice.
There were so many things to like about this book, but I'm going to mention this one right off the bat. Two people meet inadvertently and fall into each others arms (eventually) before the soldier has to return to the front, during WWII. Magda isn't the typical reticent virginal female. She actually has "two to three lovers" after Hans; and Hans isn't the studly, expert love-maker found in every romance novel out there. He's inexperienced and anxiety-ridden over the war. That alone was charming.
Then there was the realism that took stabs at the reader's heart. For example when Magda hears weeping, "weeping the way a child weeps, weeping as if there were no words left in the world, as if there was only weeping, and it would never end." Most of the story Magda and Hans remain apart as we follow their trials through the war. It's at times heart-warming and other time heart-wrenching.
Definitely worth reading.
