Journey Into The MacabreAbsolutely brilliant. The writing above par, better than I've seen in quite some time. Flawless. The creativity out of this world. The characters exceptionally written. The dialogue believable.
High praise? Well, from the moment I started reading of the 16-year-old who seeks out a Siora da Luca, haunted by the death of her daughter "a fortnight ago" and also by that same daughter, now a vourdalak who returns to feed upon that mother, I was hooked. I was taken in by the creative prose which enabled me to see what was happening. The only thing I wish the author could have avoided was the cliché in which a vampire defends the killing and eating of a person as no different than killing and eating any other animal. And the other character's inability to defend against it with, again clichéd response, "it's not the same thing". If writers would stop politicizing or preaching at the reader, I would be a happy camper. Still, this book is definitely worth reading.
