Interesting with Loads of Potential
It wasn't poorly written, which was nice, although the dialogue wasn't realistic.
I really enjoyed the story, for YA, and it has a lot of potential to be really good...with a little more effort put into the details.
There were times when the story failed to capture me because the scene felt awkward or was incomplete. For example, when Jasper meets Freya and the author is attempting to build suspense but there's the interruption by Victor. That entire moment should have left me on the edge of my seat. Instead, I wasn't moved at all. There were many moments like that in the book. Had the author's dialogue been more convincing, had the writing been a little more involved and less glossed over at times, this would be a truly remarkable YA work of fiction. I do hope the author matures a bit more and improves in his writing skills before releasing the next installment.
